This new dwelling has been designed as a contemporary version of a traditional rural vernacular cottage. It is designed to sit naturally in the landscape and is angled to follow the contours of the site, continuing the pattern of beautifully scattered vernacular housing which hug the surrounding contours of rolling hillsides, forming a distinctive and aesthetically pleasing arrangement of angled buildings in the landscape. 

The building is composed of a double pitched roof covering a stepped rectangular plan, reducing the visual impact of the building on the site. The interior is designed to maximise sea-views and natural daylighting, with kitchen / dining and living spaces arranged to take advantage of surrounding views of rolling hillsides and the horizon overlooking the ocean. Large sliding doors from main living spaces lead to external seating areas benefitting from morning, midday and evening sun, overlooking the ocean.
